Google

In recent months, conversations surrounding the tech industry have focused heavily on the subject of relationships between users and technology and whether or not these relationships are healthy. This project was conducted to examine users and gain insight on their romantic relationships with each other and also with technology. While in the School of Visual Arts’ Masters of Branding program, my team and I worked with Google to create and design an exciting digital experience aimed at romantic relationships.

The Challenge

To develop a new cross-company program to help Google users maintain a healthy relationship with technology.

The Insight

Users feel like technology is hijacking their relationships, but the truth is that they are blaming their relationship problems on technology.

The Opportunity

We believe that Google has the opportunity to shift users’ perception, and show how technology can enhance romantic relationships.

report that the internet had an impact
on their marriage or partnership say
the impact was positive.

The Solution

Google Us is a shared space within the Google ecosystem that integrates features into existing products with the aim of enhancing users’ romantic relationships.

Google Us Maps Integration

Google Us allows couples to view “Places we’ve been” on their shared timelines or directly within their Maps apps — making it easier for couples to reflect and remember the locations they’ve visited together.

Google Us Activation

Google Us activates through the myaccount.google.com page of any individual user who would like to use the new feature. By inviting a partner, the two can enable or link Google Us add-on features to any Google products they both select to use.

Google Us Play Integration

Couples can share songs through Google Play in real time. Users are notified that their partners would like to listen to a playlist either upon notification or later from their saved shared queue.
